Anatoly Fyodorovich Spier (Shpir) was a Soviet graphic artist, illustrator, and printmaker. His dates of birth and death, as well as his educational background, are unknown. He likely began his career as an ex-libris artist and book cover designer (1918-1926). From 1926 to 1931, Shpir collaborated with the publishing house Zemlya i Fabrika, where he illustrated and created covers for the magazine Vsemirny Sledopyt (World Pathfinder) and its book supplement. From 1928 to 1931, he drew for the magazine Vokrug Sveta (Around the World). From 1946, Anatoly Fyodorovich Spier served as an artist for the magazine Znanie-Sila (Knowledge is Power), where he was published until 1950. In the 2000s, amidst a wave of interest in book illustration, Spier's works were frequently reproduced by modern Russian publishers.
