Frederick Coffay Yohn (1875-1933) was an American artist and illustrator; he studied at the Indianapolis Art School, then at the Art Students League in New York under Henry Siddons Mowbray. He collaborated with the publishing houses of Scribner's Sons, Harper & Brothers, Colliers (P. F. Colliers & Son), and McClure (Samuel Sidney McClure). Through the drama of the illustrated events — pain and despair, determination and courage, love and mercy — Frederick Coffay Yohn shows that what is and what should be in a morally and spiritually strong person are always inseparable.

В начале прошлого века журнал "Скрибнерз" опубликовал два романа и серию коротких рассказов Джона Фокса-младшего (John Fox, Jr.; 1862-1919) с иллюстрациями, выполненными его земляком Фредериком Йоном (анг. Frederick Coffay Yohn; 1875-1933), которые были тепло приняты американским читателем. К сожалению, россияне мало знакомы с творчеством Джона Фокса-младшего, возможно, это связано и с трудностью перевода. Например, название романа "The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come", наверное, можно перевести на русский язык как "Кингдомкамский пастушок" и при этом одномоментно потерять авторскую философию и суть произведения выраженную его именем. Ведь в английском языке многозначная идиома "Kingdom Come" (в романе — название селения) выражает аллюзию, отсылающую к библейским смыслам, и употребляется в расширительных значениях — отсутствующих в русском языке.

Władysław Teodor Benda (Polish: 1873-1948) — American artist, illustrator, decorator, and creator of masks; born in Poznań (German: Posen); began his painting studies at the Krakow School of Fine Arts (Polish: Szkołą Sztuk Pięknych), continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (German: Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien); in 1899 the Benda family moved to the United States; in 1903 Władysław entered the William Merritt Chase School, while also taking classes at the Art Students League; from 1905 he illustrated books, advertising copy, and magazines. The artist's favorite theme is the image of an attractive, sometimes sadly hidden, sometimes alien and mysterious, but always spiritual young woman.
