Фрэнк Годвин (англ. Frank (Francis) Godwin; 1889-1959) - американский иллюстратор и художник комиксов; учился в Лиге студентов-художников Нью-Йорка (Art Students League), где сблизился с Джеймсом Монтгомери Флаггом (англ. James Montgomery Flagg; 1877-1960) с которым делил студию и чьё влияние, наряду с Чарлзом Гибсоном (англ. Charles Dana Gibson; 1867-1944), отчасти отразилось в его творчестве. К счастью, Фрэнку Годвину удалось найти свой стиль, который выгодно выделял художника как среди его кумиров, так и среди массы подражателей. Его превосходное чувство цвета, способность музыкально передать светотень и полутона, виртуозно выписать и обнажить мимику лица, выразительно изобразить руки, композиционно и ритмически подчёркивающие характер и настроение отображаемых персонажей - демонстрируют понимание среды, придают картинам несравненную глубину и вес. Фрэнк Годвин иллюстрировал такие известные произведения как "Остров сокровищ" Роберта Луиса Стивенсона, "Робинзон Крузо" Даниэля Дефо, "Робин Гуд" Генри Гилберта, эпос "Король Артур и его рыцари" (Рыцари Круглого стола). В данной же публикации представляю несколько работ художника опубликованных в еженедельнике "Либерти" в 1946 году.

Frank (Francis) Godwin (1889-1959) was an American illustrator and comic book artist. He studied at the Art Students League of New York, where he became close to James Montgomery Flagg, with whom he shared a studio and whose influence, along with Charles Dana Gibson, was partly reflected in his work. Fortunately, Frank Godwin managed to find his own style, which distinguished the artist from both his idols and the mass of imitators. His superb sense of color, ability to musically convey chiaroscuro and halftones, masterfully depict and reveal facial expressions, expressively depict hands, and compositionally and rhythmically emphasize the character and mood of the depicted characters demonstrate an understanding of the medium and give his paintings incomparable depth and weight. Frank Godwin illustrated such famous works as Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, Henry Gilbert's Robin Hood, and the epic King Arthur and His Knights. This publication presents several of the artist's works published in Liberty Weekly in 1946.
