Clifford Warren Ashley (1881-1947) was an American artist and writer. Studied at the Eric Pape Art School in Boston. In the summer of 1901, he took lessons from George Noyes, and in the fall, he was a student at the Howard Pyle School in Wilmington. In 1904, he received a commission from Harper's Monthly Magazine for an article with illustrations about whaling, after which he was hired on a whaling ship. In 1906, his essay with illustrations, "The Blubber Hunters," was published in two issues of the magazine. Russian-speaking readers partly know Clifford Warren Ashley from The Ashley Book of Knots.
