Lucien Rudaux (French: Lucien Rudaux; 1874-1947) was a French astronomer, science writer, and artist — a pioneer of the genre that would later be called cosmic (or, alternatively, astronomical) painting. As an artist and science writer, Rudaux published his work in the popular science magazine La Nature from 1902 and in the weekly L'Illustration from 1905. Lucien Rudeau is the author of popular books on astronomy, such as "What We See in the Sky, Astronomy — Practical Concepts" (1915), "Observational Astronomy" (1925), "Other Worlds" (1937), and "The Moon and Its History" (1946). The artist's style is descriptive realism, where the main emphasis is on showing the viewer a scientifically accurate visual image of alien places in the universe. His paintings are often reminiscent of photographs taken by space probes, and they were created long before the era of interplanetary space exploration.
