Борис Васильевич Зворыкин (1872-1942) — художник, график-орнаменталист, один из основоположников "русского стиля" в книжной иллюстрации; учился в Московском училище живописи, ваяния и зодчества в 1892-1893 годах; посещал занятия в Санкт-Петербургской Академии художеств; с 1898 года иллюстрировал и оформлял книги для издательств И.Д.Сытина, А.И.Мамонтова, И.Н.Кнебеля, А.Ф.Маркса и А.А.Левинсона. В 1921 году Борис Зворыкин покинул Советскую Россию; поселившись в Париже, сотрудничал с издательством "Пьяцца" (Piazza), возглавляемым Луи Фрикателли (Louis Fricotelle). Борис Зворыкин перевёл на французский язык и сопроводил своими иллюстрациями четыре русские сказки: "Снегурочку", "Василису Прекрасную", "Марью-Моревну" и "Жар-птицу". Альбом сказок художник подарил своему работодателю и покровителю Луи Фрикателли. Спустя пятьдесят лет владелец крупнейшего книжного и культурного центра "Готэм бук март" (Gotham Book Mart) Андреас Браун (Andreas Brown) преподнёс этот замечательный манускрипт Жаклин Кеннеди-Онассис (Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis), работавшей редактором нью-йоркского книжного издательства "Викинг пресс" (Viking Press). В 1978 году альбом с великолепными, богато орнаментированными иллюстрациями Бориса Зворыкина был выпущен в виде красочной детской книги на английском языке.

Boris Vasilyevich Zvorykin (1872-1942) was an artist and graphic ornamentalist, one of the founders of the "Russian style" in book illustration; he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1892-1893 and attended classes at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts; from 1898 he illustrated and designed books for the publishing houses of I.D. Sytin, A.I. Mamontov, I.N. Knebel, A.F. Marx and A.A. Levinson. In 1921, Boris Zvorykin left Soviet Russia; having settled in Paris, he collaborated with the publishing house Piazza, headed by Louis Fricotelle. Boris Zworykin translated four Russian fairy tales into French and illustrated them with his own illustrations: "The Snow Maiden," "Vasilisa the Beautiful," "Marya Morevna," and "The Firebird." The artist presented the album of fairy tales to his employer and patron, Louis Fricatelli. Fifty years later, Andreas Brown, owner of Gotham Book Mart, a major book and cultural center, presented this remarkable manuscript to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, then an editor at Viking Press in New York. In 1978, the album, featuring Boris Zworykin's magnificent, richly ornamented illustrations, was published as a colorful children's book in English.
