Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935) was a prominent female illustrator of the Golden Age of American illustration; she received her art education at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, studied with Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry in 1894, and illustrated more than 60 books. Jessie Willcox Smith painted for magazines including St. Nicholas, Collier's, Harper's, Scribner's Magazine, Ladies' Home Journal, and Good Housekeeping, for which she created nearly 200 covers.
