Maria Louise Kirk (1860-1938) was an American painter and illustrator of more than fifty books, most of them for children. There are very few mentions of Maria Louise Kirk in the current public space, and the main reason, it seems to me, is that the artist painted for children, consistent with the moral and aesthetic views of her time. Her structured and colorful illustration shows little influence from any fashionable art style. The characters in the pictures are likable, technically well done, true to their literary originals, but somewhat static and idealized in my opinion.
