Риккардо Галли (ит. Riccardo Galli; 1869-1944) – итальянский живописец, иллюстратор, поэт-диалектист, музыкант; учился в Академии Брера (Accademia di Brera) у Джузеппе Бертини (Giuseppe Bertini); сотрудничал с музыкальным издательством "Рикорди", иллюстрировал литературный ежемесячник "Леттура". С 1895 года художник регулярно участвовал в национальных и международных выставках, в основном с пейзажами маслом, пастельными этюдами, портретами; один из основателей Общества акварелистов Ломбардии (Società degli Acquarellisti Lombardi). Манера Риккардо Галли отображать натуру с драматизмом на обычном бытовом фоне, создавая динамику внутри композиции резким переходом между светом и тенью, показывает некоторую приверженность художника традициям ломбардского натурализма; в то же время маэстро не чуждался и модных в то время веяний в искусстве. Riccardo Galli (1869-1944) was born in Milan. In addition to being a painter, he was also a poet and illustrator for well-known magazines of the time, such as La Lettura and for the publisher Ricordi. Riccardo Galli was a pupil of Giuseppe Bertini at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1895, the artist has regularly participated in national and international exhibitions, mainly with oil landscapes, pastel sketches, and portraits. Riccardo Galli's manner of depicting nature with drama against an ordinary everyday background, creating dynamics within the composition with sharp transitions between light and shadow, shows some commitment to the artist's traditions of Lombard naturalism. This collection presents the artist's illustrations for the literary monthly La Lettura, created by him in 1903-1906.

Майло Уинтер [Винтер] (анг. Milo Winter; 1888-1956) - американский книжный иллюстратор; до 1912 года посещал Школу Художественного института Чикаго (School of the Art Institute of Chicago); книжным иллюстратором начал работать с 1911 года. Нельзя не отметить умение художника передать в анатомически точных изображениях животных их индивидуальные качества и, если того требовала фабула, душевный склад, что особенно заметно в забавных иллюстрациях к одному из сборников "Сказок дядюшки Римуса" под общим заголовком "Ночи с дядюшкой Римусом" (Nights with Uncle Remus) американского писателя Джоэля Чандлера Харриса (Joel Chandler Harris). Сборник напечатан в 1917 году бостонским издательством "Хоутон Миффлин Ко".

Milo Winter (1888–1956) is known for his magnificent illustrations for the Chicago printing and publishing house Rand McNally. He illustrated primarily children's and young adult books, such as Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Uncle Remus by Joel Harris, Collected Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and The Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge. His illustrations are precise in detail, melodic and in tune with the text, original, and beautiful. I would like to highlight the artist's ability to convey individual qualities and emotional makeup of animals in anatomically accurate images, which is especially noticeable in the amusing illustrations for Nights with Uncle Remus by Joel Chandler Harris.

Владимир Михайлович Конашевич (1888-1963) - русский и советский художник, график; художественное образование получил в Московском училище живописи, ваяния и зодчества (1908-1913); с 1915 года жил и работал в Петрограде (с 1924 года - Ленинград); сотрудничал с издательствами "Радуга", "Госиздат", "Academia", "Детиздат" - иллюстрировал произведения Афанасия Фета, Ивана Тургенева, Антона Чехова, Михаила Зощенко, Самуила Маршака, Корнея Чуковского, Ганса Христиана Андерсена, Шарля Перро, Александра Пушкина, Владимира Даля; рисовал для детских журналов "Ёж", "Чиж", "Костёр", "Мурзилка", "Весёлые картинки". Для его иллюстрации типична затейливо-декоративная графическая манера, склонность к шутливой гротескности, колористическая выразительность, сочетание реальности и фантазии.

Vladimir Mikhailovich Konashevich (1888-1963) was a Russian and Soviet artist; he received his art education at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture (1908-1913); from 1915 the artist lived and worked in Petrograd (since 1924—Leningrad). Vladimir Konashevich collaborated with the publishing houses Raduga, Gosizdat, Academia, and Detizdat and illustrated the works of Afanasy Fet, Ivan Turgenev, Anton Chekhov, Mikhail Zoshchenko, Antoine François Prévost, Samuil Marshak, Korney Chukovsky, Hans Christian Andersen, Charles Perrault, Alexander Pushkin, Vladimir Dahl. Konashevich also worked as an illustrator for children's magazines such as Yozh (Hedgehog), Chizh (Siskin), Kostyor (Bonfire), Murzilka, and Vesyolye kartinki (Funny Pictures). His works were distinguished by a tendency towards playful grotesqueness and an intricately decorative manner, harking back to the graphics of the St. Petersburg artistic movement Mir Iskusstva (World of Art).
"Before I take up a pencil, I have to figure everything out in advance, mentally imagine the finished drawing in all its details. What you have in mind always seems much more significant and interesting to your mind's eye than what appears later on paper: there is always a gap between dreams and reality. This is where the feeling of not being completely successful comes from. For me, there is no miracle, as for someone whose images are born in the process of work and sometimes unexpected finds arise. For me, there are no such surprises. The only thing that is unforeseen is that which is not thought out to the end. In my works, there are none of those "accidents" that are usually considered signs of an artistic temperament. My drawings are always compositionally balanced and precise, even in those cases when they seem unfinished to others. At the same time, despite the rationalistic basis of my art, I do not have ready-made schemes and norms into which I would squeeze my compositions. Luigi Dalmonte [Dal Monte] Casoni (1881–1966) was an Italian advertising artist, book and magazine illustrator, and lithographer. At the beginning of the last century, he was the artistic director of the popular Italian weekly La Tribuna Illustrata, published in Rome. One of the authors who created the covers of the children's weekly Il Giornalino della Domenica and the monthly literary review La Lettura. For some time he was working in Switzerland, England, Canada, and America, where he studied advertising techniques based on consumer psychology. Returning to Italy in 1922, he founded the first Italian advertising agency in Milan. On the pages of the magazine La Tribuna Illustrata, Luigi Dalmonte appears both as a striking representative of the graphic art of Italian stile moderno and as a wonderful artist-journalist.
"Трибуна иллюстрата" (La Tribuna illustrata) – популярный итальянский еженедельный журнал, издававшийся в Риме. Журнал основан в январе 1890 года как приложение к ежедневной газете "Трибуна" (La Tribuna). Первая и последняя страницы были цветными и создавались известными художниками и гравёрами. Каждый выпуск содержал 16 страниц.
